40 years ago today more than 100 cars started The 1970 London-Mexico World Cup Rally at Wembley Stadium. The idea behind this rally was to mark the fact that the 1966 FIFA World Cup had been held in London and that the upcoming 1970 World Cup was to be held in Mexico. They covered 16,000 miles through Europe and south America. There were 4 Hillman Hunters among the contenders, including the Hunter#17 with the JCB sponsorship. Rootes Group officially didn't run a car in this rally. I guess they didn't wanted to push their luck too far, since two years prior they had already won the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon.
Only 23 cars finished the 1970 World Cup rally, and among them was Hunter#83 which finished 15th overall. Not bad ha?...
Another great blog entry Shahinio, but I think you'll find you forgot to mention one VERY important detail. England won the 1966 World Cup...on home ground! What a day that must've been...and destined to be repeated on July 17th 2010 in South Africa!
Wishful thinking from your part about the 2010 outcome I'm sure, but I need to remind you that this Blog is related to Hillman Hunter & Paykan, please keep soccer out of this! ;)
